So you have tried everything you can think of and you just can’t get the HP Officejet 4500 All-in-One Printer G510g-m to install. You have 2 or 3 references listed in device manager as other devices. You have tried the full driver package and the basic driver package and they just don’t work. I had this problem and it may have been compounded because I was installing remotely. That means the printer was connected before the driver installation and HP drivers seem to hate that.
Well, here is what I did to resolve the issue. First I uninstalled all HP drivers from Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features > Uninstall or Change a Program. Then I opened device manager and uninstalled the references under Other Devices as well as the DOT4 USB device and the IEEE compatible device.
Caution: Be sure you are on the official HP website before downloading the driver. Searching for support is probably the most common way my customers get hijacked and end up with a system loaded with adware and malware.
Next I downloaded the driver listed as “HP Officejet Enterprise Driver – IT Professional Use Only“. Be sure you download the correct one because there are 2 different downloads. One for 32bit and one for 64bit.
After installing the driver and choosing to connect the printer later, I went to device manager and right clicked, then I chose scan for changes. I opened the update progress window and was very happy to see that each driver installed successfully and had the magic green check mark I was waiting for.
